The Lordsburg Elks Lodge is offering an opportunity to students across Hidalgo County by awarding two $1,000 college scholarships to each school in the area. With a deadline for applications set for April 28th, interested students are encouraged to visit their school counselors for more details and to pick up an application. In providing these scholarships, the Lordsburg Elks Lodge hopes to be able to help local students further their education.

This past weekend, Cobre’s SkillsUSA team participated in the state SkillsUSA competitions, showcasing their talents across several categories, including Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Photography, Welding, Early Childhood Education, Community Service, and First Aid CPR. Notably, the CSI group earned 2nd place in the competition, demonstrating outstanding performance. Congratulations to all the students and winners.
The Bayard Public Library is excited to announce the launch of its Teen Drama Club, offering an engaging opportunity for young individuals to explore acting, performances, and much more. Starting April 4th, the club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. This program is open to participants ages 10 and up, providing a creative and supportive environment for teens to develop their theatrical skills.
The New Mexico Senate has recently confirmed four new appointments to the Western New Mexico University’s Board of Regents. The new members include former District 2 State Senator Steve Neville, John V. Wertheim, Keana Huerta, and J. Dean Reed. All four individuals were nominated by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and were approved by the full Senate following endorsement by the Senate Rules Committee. Their contributions are expected to support WNMU’s continued excellence, enhance its historic legacy as a Hispanic Serving Institution, and further its academic quality, dedication to transforming students’ lives, and longstanding service to the region and state.
