In celebration of Earth Day, the anti-litter program Pick It Up – Toss No Mas will partner with other groups in Grant County for a community-wide trash cleanup this Saturday, April 23rd. Volunteers can join the effort at 3 locations that include: Gough Park in Silver City from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. ; Viola Stone Park in Santa Clara from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.; and Terrazas Funeral Home on Highway 180 from 9:00 A.M. to 12 noon. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Because children under 12 are not permitted on state highways for the cleanup, families with younger children are encouraged to clean up litter in their neighborhood, local parks, or waterways.
PNM is encouraging customers to act now in preparation for wildfire season. First, in order for PNM to communicate with customers in an emergency, everyone should take a moment to be sure that their email, phone number, and mailing address is current on their PNM account. In addition, keep dry leaves away from outdoor lighting, outlets and power cords; keep grass and weeds from growing around power poles and under power lines; put together an emergency supply kit in case of power outage or emergency; and ensure family members in the home have contact information of a common relative or friend in case members are separated.
