The New Mexico Department of Health has announced today that the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine distribution will be paused following federal Center for Disease Control and Food and Drug Administration recommendations. According to a release, these announcements follow reports of six “rare and severe blood clots, out of 6.8 doses given, among women between the ages of 18 and 48 in the United States. The symptoms occurred 6 to 13 days after the vaccination. People who have received the J&J vaccine who develop severe headache, blurred vision, seizure, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider. Scheduled J&J events and vaccinations will be paused or shifted to Pfizer and Moderna

The PNM Resources Foundation collectively donated $230,000 to twenty non-profits across the state for their work in improving the quality of life for homeless individuals and families. According to a release from PNM, “each nonprofit grant recipient has programs making an impact through the state that reduces homelessness and shares the PNM Resources Foundation vision of moving New Mexico forward together.” The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development 2019 count showed New Mexico with the highest percentage increase in homelessness in the nation, at 27 percent. Locally, El Refugio, Inc. in Silver City receive a portion of the PNM Resource Foundation grant monies to continue their mission.

The New Mexico Department of Veterans Services is hosting a Virtual Veterans claims, benefits, and assistance clinic tomorrow, Wednesday, April 14th, from 9:00 A.M. to 12 noon. Veterans or their eligible dependents can log onto the Zoom links for face-to-face assistance with filing VA disability claims, for state veterans benefits, guidance regarding registration for COVID-19 vaccines, or help with any other issues a veteran or their family may be facing.
