At the time of compiling this report, COVID-19 cases have increased in New Mexico to 1345 individuals. There is a total of 31 deaths now in New Mexico from COVID-19. For our area, we have 10 positive cases of COVID-19 in Grant County 1 in Catron County, and 2 in Luna County.

The New Mexico Area Agency on Aging, Hidalgo Medical Services, and the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments with state funds, coordinated with local volunteers to help local seniors facing hunger during the COVID-19 health crisis. On Saturday, 188 boxes of non-perishable food from the Roadrunner Food Bank were distributed and delivered to area low income seniors. This needed assistance was made possible by HMS employees, Priscilla Lucero, Executive Director of the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments, and Public Officials.

If you are a patient of HMS, just give them a call. All individuals will need to be screened for appropriate clinical symptoms with associated CDC and NMDOH screening criteria. Testing is available at the following clinics: Lordsburg, Silver City Community Health Center, Med Square, Cliff-Gila, Mimbres, and Animas.

The New Mexico Superintendent of Insurance announced that major auto insurers have agreed to issue credits and rebates to consumers since individuals are driving less during the COVID-19 pandemic from the Governor’s stay-at-home order introduced in March. The major insurers include:

  • Allstate
  • GEICO
  • Liberty Mutual
  • Progressive
  • Safeco
  • USAA
  • Travelers
  • State Farm

In addition, the insurers were praised for voluntarily complying with the Superintendent’s request to refrain from cancellation or non-renewal of coverage caused by non-payments due to COVID-19.
