Yesterday, Governor Michell Lujan Grisham announced that the State of New Mexico will temporarily re-implement a statewide requirement that facemasks be worn in all public indoor space with only limited exceptions and regardless of vaccination status. According to a news release, this measure is being taken to stem the state’s rising tide of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. The public health order, issued by Acting Health Secretary David R. Scrase, M.D., the re-implemented mask requirement applies to all individuals aged 2 and older in all indoor public settings – except when eating or drinking. The indoor mask requirement will be effective this Friday, August 20th. It will remain in effect until at least September 15th. Businesses, houses of worship, and other entities may enact stricter requirements at their discretion. In addition, the governor, receiving counsel from the state Medical Advisory Team and state health officials, may decide to extend or lift the requirement as necessary.

The Luna County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Vivian G. Harriman. Harriman is a 62-year-old Caucasian female, 5’5’ inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen on August 1st, in Deming driving away from 607 Sunday Drive in a red 2009 Toyota Camry passenger car displaying a New Mexico license plate of 836-SFF. Anyone with any information regarding this Missing Endangered Person Advisory is asked to call the Luna County Sheriff’s Office at 575-546-0354 or dial 911.

The Gila Gobblers are holding their annual “Gathering of the Flock” Hunting Heritage event this Saturday at the Grant County Veteran’s Memorial Business and Conference Center. The Gila Gobblers are part of the National Wild Turkey Federation, a group founded in 1973 and dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of their hunting heritage. The group is also instrumental in enhancing wild turkey populations and the continuation of hunting and the quality wildlife habitat for many species.
