The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday to kick-off the new “Curbside Service” that starts tomorrow at the Silver City location. According to Walmart, customers can browse the Walmart Grocery assortment online and select a timeslot to pick up their order.
Border Patrol agents from the Deming Border Patrol station were provided coordinates of the general location of five Mexican Nationals that were in distress after illegally crossing the border in to the U.S. Agents located the group of adults in the Cedar Mountains, southwest of Deming. They received a field medical screening, and were transported to the Deming Border Patrol Station and were given additional medical exams. The subjects will receive further processing and will be charged with illegal entry.
Hidalgo Medical Services, in collaboration with New Ventures Consulting, with financial support from the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation, is in the process of developing a Grant County Collaborative Senior Services Plan. In support of this effort, HMS is asking community members to take 10 minutes to complete a short survey. Community participation in the survey will help gather important information about community needs and service priorities. The public is welcome to take the 10-minute survey by visiting the Hidalgo Medical Services page on Facebook. The survey closes on July 31st.
Rotary Exchange student, Jan Schwartzfeld, of Germany, will be the guest speaker at the Silver City Rotary Club meeting on July 2nd. According to a release from the club, Schwartzfeld will share how he has benefited from the exchange student program this past year. In addition to attending Silver High School as junior, Schwartzfeld participated on the track team and served as a kicker for the football team. He will soon be going to a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp before he returns to Germany. The Silver City Rotary Club meets at noon every Tuesday for lunch in the Sunset Room of the WNMU Student Cafeteria in the Student Memorial Building at 1000 College Avenue.
