Due in part to the warm, dry weather yesterday, the Silver Fire has reached 36,500 acres. The fire continues to grow primarily toward the north, but Fire crews are currently able to maintain containment lines. The fire remains 5% contained.
There has been very little fire activity south of NM Highway 152. Indirect line construction was completed on the east flank of the fire, and hand line was completed on the west side in East Quaking Aspen Canyon and Rabb Park.
Incident Commander Matt Reidy stated earlier today that they are “pleased to announce the evacuation order for the community of Kingston is lifted at noon today.” This announcement is only for residents of the Kingston area. Travel to the area will remain closed until further notice. Residents of Kingston are permitted to return home thanks to coordinated efforts from the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico State Police, the NM Department of Transportation, Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department, NM State Forestry and the US Forest Service.
