The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce will have a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the Girl Scout Little House. The building has been recently remodeled, and the Girl Scouts are proud to invite everyone out for the ribbon cutting and open house tomorrow at 3:30 pm. The Girl Scout Little House is located at 302 West 11th Street here in Silver City.
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will be selling thousands of leftover deer and javelina draw licenses beginning June 25th at 10 am. Licenses will be sold on a first-come, first served basis to New Mexico residents only for the first 24 hours, but will be open to everyone at 10 am on the 26th. Interested parties are strongly encouraged to purchase a game hunting license in advance. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has issues a Scam Alert to residents in the area, warning them of multiple recent scams. Included are scams informing residents they have won a prize they need to collect and asking for money. The other concerns warrants for the resident’s arrest and seeks account information to cancel the warrant. Sheriff Raul Villanueva encourages citizens to verify the information of the caller and to never give out personal information. If you need help, contact Central Dispatch at 388-8840.
On Saturday, Travelin’ Jack and his owner Jill wandered around downtown on a mission to prove that Silver City is pet friendly. Jack made friends wherever he went, posed for pictures, and got to meet other dogs. Many stops offered Jack a bowl of water or a treat during the visit to different venues. The trip is to appear in an upcoming TV spot to show the pet-friendliness of Silver City.
