Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The 8th Annual Jump into Summer Family Fun Day was held this past Saturday at Gough Park.  HMS, the sponsor of the event, promotes a healthy, active lifestyle at the event for kids of all ages with activities from jumping balloons and water slides to climbing walls and obstacle courses.

Alertness by Border Patrol Agents in the boot-heel of New Mexico paid off this week after they arrested several subjects including a convicted murderer, a sex offender and drug smugglers attempting to bring more than $113,000 in marijuana into the U.S.  U.S. Border Patrol is reporting that Horse Patrol agents tracked footprints on June 6th that led to the arrest of six people.  Among the subjects a 41 year-old from Mexico who had an extensive criminal history including Attempted Murder and Child Cruelty, and Willful Cruelty to a Child.  Also arrester was a 49 year-old convicted sex offender.  Lordsburg Border Patrol Agents also seized three bundles of marijuana and arrested an additional five subjects near Playas.

  1. S Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations Officers working at the Santa Teresa port of entry seized 224 pounds of marijuana on Jun 8th. The drugs were concealed within wooden tables in a shipment of rustic furniture.

According to a report from KOB News, USDA Undersecretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon said SNAP, the state’s food stamp program which services tens of thousands of low-income New Mexicans, is the worst in the country.  Concannan said the USDA hasn’t started its own investigation into allegations of New Mexico’s SNAP program falsifying applications, but the allegations became known last month.  The state Human Services Department is accused of adding fake assets to applicants’ info, making them ineligible for emergency aid.

A Presidential Proclamation issued today states: as  a mark of respect for the victims of the act of hatred and terror perpetrated on Sunday, June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, June 16, 2016.
