Update: July 12, 2013: 3:00 pm
As of today, the Catwalk National Recreation Area has been temporarily closed due to flooding over two low water crossings along NM State Highway 174, which allow access to the area. The Catwalk will be reopened when the danger from flooding has passed. For information, visit the Gila National Forest Website Online at www.fs.usda.gov/gila/ or check for road closures on www.nmroads.com.
Update: July 15, 2013: 3:00 pm
With a decrease in flood danger, the Catwalk has reopened. Recreation hours during the summer will run from 8 am until 1 pm. Open areas include the Whitewater Picnic Area and 1/4 mile of the primitive Catwalk trail. Parts of the trail remain closed to repair damage from a rock-fall earlier this summer. The Catwalk may be closed at any time for public safety, so check before you go by calling the Glenwood Ranger District at 539-2481.
