Santa Clara Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Volunteers from Los Bomberos Auxiliary are gearing up for the Christmas Holiday and are requesting donations to provide goodie bags for children and seniors that will be given out by Santa Claus this year. Santa will be visiting local schools on the fire truck to students from Head Start to 6th grade in addition to making stops at the local Senior Center and Assisted Living facilities in the Village of Santa Clara. Fire Chief, Joe Adam Gallegos, is requesting donations be in the form of fresh fruit (apples, oranges, or Cuties), salted peanuts, candy, or monetary donations to purchase items for the goodie bags. The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced a road advisory regarding the intersection of NM Highway 15 Pinos Altos Road and Highway 180 in Silver City will have a 4-way stop in operation until repairs can be made to the signal light control box. Motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs, and be cautious of personnel and equipment in the area. The 4-way stop may be in effect for up to two weeks.
In some statistics released by C and R Research, package theft is a growing problem across the country with 36% of 2000 respondents reporting that they have had a delivered package stolen at least once. Some preventative measures against “porch pirates” include: doorbell cameras; motion lights, installed fence of gate; or used an Amazon Smart Key. In the study, 82% of all respondents said that video doorbell cameras “provide peace of mind.”
