The Deming School District is establishing an “Equity Council” comprised of students, parents, teachers, and community members to best represent diversity. The members of the council will be charged with making various determinations on how Deming students are served and improvements in preparing students for college and careers.
Gila Regional Medical Center has been recognized for overall excellence in outcomes by the Chartis Center of Rural Health and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. The Performance Leadership Awards reflect top quartile performance among all rural hospitals in the United States in either Quality, Outcomes or Patient Perspective.
The National Center for Frontier Communities was conducting a nationwide search for a new executive director and has recently appointed Dr. Stacey Fox to the position. Dr. Cox has worked in the social justice field with administration non-profits for over 20 years. The National Center for Frontier Communities was founded in 1997 in New Mexico. Known as the “Frontier Education Center” at that time, it was formed as a result of years of activism around the lack of access to health care and other vital human services in frontier communities. Their mission is to provide national leadership and build collaboration on issues important to frontier communities.
With New Year’s Eve upon us, at least 45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions each year. The most common resolutions include: to lose weight, spend less money, get organized, stay fit and healthy, save more money, and to quit smoking. Studies have shown that even though almost half of all American’s make resolutions, at least 25 percent of them give up on those pledges by the second week of January.
