The Town of Silver City is now offering Candidate Packets for the Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, March 3rd. The elective offices are available, each with a 4-year term are Councilor District 1 and Councilor District 2. Declaration of Candidacy is Tuesday, January 7th between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Office of the Municipal Clerk located at 101 West Broadway. Declarations of Intent to be a write-in candidate need to be filed between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 14th. Packets are also available at City Hall and the Town’s website at town of silver city dot org.
The Gila National Forest is reminding all fuelwood cutters that the tags and permits purchased during the 2019 calendar year expire on December 31st, 2020. Firewood wood permits will be available for purchase on January 2nd, 2020 in addition to new firewood guides and tags. The forest service suggests the following tips as individuals prepare to go out and cut firewood: Check weather conditions and road conditions. This will help avoid resource damage and keep you from getting stuck. Pick up your free Motor Vehicle Use Maps from any of the six ranger stations and make sure to pack your personal safety supplies – such as water, snacks, dry clothing, warm coats, etc.
The Western New Mexico Board of Regents approved the possible addition of 20 new degree programs, accepted a donation of property, and passed the mid-year budget adjustment request, the first quarter financial certification, and a revised version of the Five-Year Capital Outlay Projects document, also hearing updates from campus leaders during their on-campus meeting on December 12th. According to a news release, Dr. Jack Crocker, WNMU Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, presented the five-year degree plan, which includes three new master’s programs, baccalaureate degrees in outdoor leadership studies and political science, five new minors, several certificates and Applied Liberal Arts and Sciences degrees.
