In the famous words of Alan Jackson, “Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?”  The Patriot Day Memorial is a time to remember the thoughts, feelings, and prayers for over 3,000 men, women, and children who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.

Five years ago, James and Connie Zawaki began sponsoring the “Honoring Our Heroes” “9-11” “Patriot Day Memorial.”  They have sworn as long as they life in Silver City, or anywhere in Grant County, they will do everything they can to make sure the date is never forgotten. “Have you forgotten?”

The Zawakis hope to ensure that as many citizens of Grant County, even though we are states away from New York City, remember the lives lost that day, including those inside the targeted buildings, all those aboard the planes, and of course all of the First Responders who died in service to our country.

The “Honoring Our Heroes 9-11 Patriot Day Memorial” will be held at Gough Park on Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 will be held from 3 to 7 pm.  The event will honor our present day heroes, including Military, Fire, Police, and Emergency Responders; as well as set up Memorial Boards, depicting the names of every victim at the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania Flight 93.

Head out and honor these 3,355 men, women, and children who gave the “Ultimate Sacrifice.”
