Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (YSAPC) has named Michael M. McGee, LADAC, MSW, as their new Program Coordinator. The new coordinator joins as the Coalition celebrates its fourth anniversary of serving Grant County.  A lifetime resident of Grant County, McGee has a Masters of Social Work and, additionally, is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Councilor (LADAC) from Western New Mexico University where he is an adjunct professor for the Social Work department.  McGee is very proud of his roots in the community, including being Cobre High alumni. He also served in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm.

Luna County Clerk Andrea Rodriguez announces voter registration for the June 7th Primary Election will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 10. All qualified electors duly registered on or before May 10, 2016 are eligible to cast a ballot.  Tuesday, May 10, is also the first day a voter may cast a paper absentee ballot or vote on an electronic voting system in the clerk’s office. The last day for early voting in the clerk’s office is Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters may also request an application and absentee ballot to be mailed to them. The last day the clerk may mail an absentee ballot to an applicant is Friday June 3.

The Internal Revenue Service today issued a warning that scammers may try using the April 18 tax deadline to prey on hard-working taxpayers by impersonating the IRS and others with fake phone calls and emails. Even after the tax deadline passes, taxpayers should know the telltale signs of a scam and tips to protect themselves from a variety of phone scams and phishing emails.

The US Postal Service will commemorate sixteen National Monuments on a Forever Stamp this summer in celebration of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary.  Parks to be commemorated include Acadia National Park in Maine, Arches National Park in Utah, Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland, Everglades National Park in Florida, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve in Alaska, and Bandelier National Monument and Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico.  The remaining stamps are set to be revealed by the end of next week.

The first human-rated expandable structure that may help inform the design of deep space habitats is set to be installed to the International Space Station Saturday, April 16. NASA Television coverage of the installation will begin at 5:30 a.m. EDT.
