The Silver City Town Council approved Resolution 2026-14 establishing a seven-member Downtown Action Committee aimed at identifying and implementing solutions to downtown issues over the next three years. The committee will include representatives from both within and outside the town, including a member from Western New Mexico University. Councilors also approved Resolution 2026-15 authorizing a loan agreement with the New Mexico Finance Authority for a Colonias infrastructure project that will fund street, sidewalk, curb, gutter, and ADA improvements from 32nd Street to 41st Street through a $1.8 million grant and a $200,000 loan.
The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs recently accepted the 2026 Quality Assurance Report from Western New Mexico University, confirming the university’s business curriculum continues to meet international standards for excellence and keeping the program on track for reaffirmation in 2028. The achievement reflects years of strategic improvements, expanded accredited degree offerings, and an ongoing commitment to teaching quality, student learning outcomes, and continuous program development within the WNMU School of Business.
As a reminder, State Senator Gabe Ramos, State Representative Luis Terrazas, and local fire and emergency officials will host a Fire Mitigation and Preparedness Community Meeting tonight, May 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. The meeting will focus on wildfire mitigation strategies and community preparedness efforts designed to help residents better understand fire risks and strengthen emergency readiness across the region.
