The Village of Santa Clara has announced that they now have a new Animal Control Officer (ACO), Larry Montoya, who is also the Fire Chief. He began his position as ACO in February and has experience with animal control, as a Police Officer as well as with the fire department. If any residents have any questions or concerns for Mr. Montoya, please call the animal shelter or City Hall. 

New Mexico Agriculture in the Classroom (NMAITC) and the Grant County Copper CowBells recently teamed up to present “Stew for a Few” at Cliff Elementary. NMAITC members spoke to PreK through 2nd graders about agriculture concepts, plants, animals, cattle ranching and how important it is to understand where their food comes from. The children also learned about what role agriculture plays in providing clothes, food and medicine. Members of the Copper Cowbells shared their experiences as local cattle ranchers and the importance of agriculture in New Mexico. 

Silver Consolidated Schools will be having their last learning session entitled “Helping Your Child Succeed” tomorrow, March 20th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The session will feature discussions on three parenting styles including: parental warmth, behavioral control and monitoring behaviors. All those interested can join the discussion at the Administration Office Board Room, located at 2810 North Swan Street. 

The New Mexico Department of Agriculture is celebrating the 51st National Agricultural Week (NMDA), which is observed from March 17th to March 24th. NMDA acknowledges and recognizes the essential work that farmers, ranchers and agricultural professionals do to feed, fuel and clothe communities in New Mexico and across the nation. The highlight of the week is National Agriculture Day, which is celebrated today, March 19th and highlights the important role agriculture plays in ensuring a sustainable future, helps stabilize the economy and supports more than 46 million jobs across the United States, while allowing those working outside the agriculture industry to have access to the safest food in the world.

We would like to give a big Happy Birthday wish to William Von Hoff on his 98th birthday today! William is a World War II vet, having served in the Navy. He was a church pastor for many years and had missionaries in Chili, Honduras, and Ecuador. He retired and lived in Albuquerque until about 8 months ago when he moved to Silver City to live with family. We thank William Von Hoff for his service and wish him the best on this 98th Birthday.
