The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents of a notable increase in scam-related phone calls affecting the local community. According to multiple reports, individuals are receiving calls from scammers posing as authorities or other trusted figures, demanding personal information, money, gift cards, or even ransom payments under the false pretense of holding a family member captive. Residents are urged not to provide any personal information or send money in response to such calls. Instead, they should first attempt to verify the safety of the alleged family member and promptly report the incident to their local law enforcement agency.

The Gila National Forest has implemented a revised forest order that limits the length of stay on all forest lands to 14 days within any 30 consecutive days. This measure, effective immediately through April 20, 2027, applies to all National Forest System lands managed by the Gila National Forest, including areas designated as Apache National Forest within New Mexico. The updated order is intended to protect natural resources from the adverse impacts of extended occupancy and to enhance access to camping opportunities for a broader range of recreational visitors.

The City of Lordsburg has announced a significant investment of over $4.2 million to upgrade the North Side water system. Funded through a Colonias grant awarded to the city in 2023, the project will involve the installation of new fire hydrants and the replacement of aging main lines, valves, and supply lines. These improvements are expected to enhance service reliability, strengthen fire protection capabilities, and substantially improve overall water quality for both residents and businesses.
