Cobre High School has announced the appointment of Caesar Alvarez as its new principal. Mr. Alvarez brings extensive experience in education leadership, previously serving as principal of Tularosa Middle School and in several leadership roles within Las Cruces Public Schools. His background includes work in school improvement, restorative practices, student support and academic growth, along with public service experience as Mayor Pro Tempore for the City of Lordsburg and in law enforcement. Mr. Alvarez is committed to building a safe, supportive and high-performing environment focused on student success and community engagement.
During The Grant County Commission meeting, the commission approved a preliminary budget that includes a 2 percent raise for county employees, salary increases for elected officials, and an additional $30,000 to address a budget shortfall for Corre Cantinas. Officials from Gila Regional Medical Center reported the hospital posted a $216,000 surplus for March and announced that a new emergency medicine provider group will begin staffing the emergency room on July 1. Sheriff Raul Villanueva also reported that deputies responded to 1,346 calls last month while the department continues operating with six deputy vacancies.
