The Silver City Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to an address off of North Gold Street at 8:00 A.M. yesterday morning after receiving a call that a bear was seen in the back yard of a residence. With assistance from the Grant County Sheriff’s Department and New Mexico Game & Fish, the bear was safely sedated and relocated. Silver City’s anti-litter program “Pick It Up – Toss No Mas” will hold its next community trash cleanup tomorrow morning from 8:00 A.M. until 12 noon. Volunteers are requested to meet on the south side of Gough Park to get free trash bags, gloves, trash pickers and snacks. Participants will spend the morning cleaning up litter at a location of their choice and then return to Gough Park between 11:00 A.M. and 12 noon to drop off trash, recyclables, and then record their cleanup results. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Because children under 12 are not permitted on state highways for the cleanup, families with younger children are encouraged to clean up litter in their neighborhood, local parks or waterways.

All are welcome to a Music in the Park event tonight at Viola Stone Park in Santa Clara from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Live music will be performed by the Steelin’ Skins Band.  This event is open to the entire family and there is no admission cost.

The Silver City American Legion will be hosting their free Annual Veterans Picnic on tomorrow from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Gomez Peak Pavilion off of Little Walnut Road. All local veterans and their families are invited to attend.
