Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

Grant County has announced they will continue to operate under the current COVID-19 safety measures through Monday, January 4th. The closures to the public include the following:

  • County Government offices are not providing direct services to the public
  • All payments for services and payment of taxes will need to be done via check or money order, and may be mailed or placed in the drop box located in front of the Grant County Administration Building
  • All events at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Conference Center have been cancelled until further notice
  • The Silver City/Grant County Airport will remain open but will continue to limit terminal access to only those flying on Advanced Air
  • Bataan Park, the Grant County Shooting Range, and the Grant County Fairgrounds will remain closed until further notice
  • The Silver Street Complex, with the exception of Grant County Regional Dispatch and the Department of Health Public Office, will remain closed to the public

These measures exclude the Detention Center, Sheriff’s Office, and the Road Department. County offices will operate during normally scheduled business hours, however; business will need to be conducted electronically via email, mail or by telephone. Under certain circumstances, citizens will be seen on a “by appointment only basis” by calling the respective office. The measures will be re-assessed on the January 4th.

Silver City Mainstreet with the help of the Town of Silver City employees and other volunteers have decorated light poles with lights and new banners in Downtown Silver City for the holiday season. Previous fundraising and donations from Janey Katz and Suzi Calhoun made the decorations lighting up downtown possible. In addition, the lighted Christmas wreath was put up on the side of the Murray Ryan Visitors Center. MainStreet is also hosting a merchant holiday window decoration contest.
