Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 109,947 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 1,872 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County increased 15 new cases for a total of 569 positive cases; Luna County increased 19 new cases for a total of 2,080 positive cases; Hidalgo County increased 3 new cases for a total 196 total positive cases; and Catron County increased 1 new case 49 positive cases. Statewide, there are 935 COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Currently Grant, Luna, Hidalgo and Carton counties are designated in Red Level, meaning they gave a COVID-19 case incident rate greater than 8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the most recent two-week period and an average  percent of positive COVID-19 test results over the most recent 14-day period greater than 5 percent. According to the NMDOH, the positivity rates in Southwestern New Mexico are as follows: Grant County at 8%; Luna County at 26.6%; Hidalgo County at 18.6%; and Catron County at 22%. This data was sampled from November 11th through November 30th. The next update is scheduled for December 16th.

This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week and Hidalgo Medical Services is sending out their Mobile Health Unit to several locations giving residents a convenient and safe opportunity to obtain their annual flu vaccination. The HMS mobile health unit will be in Hurley tomorrow Wednesday December 9th at the Gateway parking lot from 9:00 A.M to 3:00 P.M.; in Rodeo this Thursday, December 10th at the Chiricahua Museum parking lot from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.; and at Fort Bayard Medical Center this Friday December 11th from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Each scheduled location will contain a lunch break from 12:00 to 12:30 P.M.
