The New Mexico Department of Health issued a COVID-19 update for Saturday December 18th through Monday December 20th consisting of 3,110 new cases statewide with a decreased 7-day positivity rate of 9.5% down from 9.9%. Locally, new COVID cases were reported as follows: Grant County with 49 new cases; Luna County with 29 new cases; Hidalgo County with 7 new cases; and Catron County with 2 new reported cases.

Silver City resident, Annette Toney, Customer Engagement Specialist from the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest traveled to New York last week to help make decisions and set goals for girl scouting into the futures. According to a news release, while there, Toney was pinned with the Macy Lamp of Knowledge the smallest bronze lamp, that has been given to all who participate in a training or an event at Macy, since the very first in 1926. The Edith Macy Conference Center is in Briarcliff Manor just outside of New York City.

Outgoing Lordsburg Municipal Schools Board members, Guadalupe Cole and Edgar Gomez were recognized at the last regular meeting by Superintendent Dr. Stephen Lucas. They each were presented a plaque in appreciation of their 4 years of service to the Board of Education and community. Congratulations to Guadalupe “Suzie” Cole and Edgar Gomez!
