The Victorian-style gazebo at the center of Gough Park, a longtime gathering place for community events, celebrations and performances, marked its 50th anniversary earlier this month. To commemorate the milestone, the Silver City Museum unveiled a micro-exhibit highlighting the gazebo’s history and its creation for the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976. Built with grant funding, town support and community donations, the structure incorporates restored historic downtown streetlamp posts and contains a time capsule filled with local histories and other community artifacts that is scheduled to be opened on July 4, 2076.
Deming High School has released updated dress-code expectations for the 2026-27 school year, requiring students to wear clothing that is appropriate, fully covers undergarments and supports a respectful learning environment. The policy prohibits items such as pajamas, slippers, blankets, most face coverings, sagging pants and clothing displaying gang-related, vulgar, hateful or illegal content. School officials said the guidelines are intended to promote a safe, respectful atmosphere, and they noted that staff will follow the same dress-code expectations.
The Historic Village of Columbus Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. July 29 at the Ruth Coleman Community Complex to consider several financial and administrative items. The revised agenda includes approval of meeting minutes, year-end budget adjustments, the village’s fourth-quarter fiscal year 2026 financial report and the final budget for fiscal year 2027, with each item scheduled for discussion and a roll call vote.
