Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 27,579 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 15,412 tested as recovered. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has increased to 108 total cases with 43 recovered; Luna County increased to 401 total cases with an increase to 151 recovered; Hidalgo County remains at 99 total cases with 67 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 3 recovered.

Small businesses in Grant County that have been impacted by COVID-19 may be eligible for a State of New Mexico Small Business Continuity Grant. The grants, that do not need to be paid back, range from $1,000 to $10,000. Area municipalities, the County of Grant, and the Chamber of Commerce are working together to help business with these grants. Some of the eligible expenses are associated with the grant are as follows:

  • Rent
  • Non-owner Payroll
  • Mortgage Payments
  • Insurance
  • Utilities
  • Marketing

In addition, some other costs covered are reconfiguring physical space, installation of plexiglass barriers, PPE, and more. Limited grants are available and the application may be accessed by visting silvercity.org.

The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s State Parks Division has announced the reopening of overnight camping in most State Parks beginning October 1st. All camping reservations will be cancelled and refunded through September 30th. At this time, State Parks remain open to New Mexico residents only. Reservations from out-of-state visitors will be cancelled and refunded through October 16, 2020. Camping will be available by online reservation only and a valid New Mexico license plate will be required to complete the transaction.
