Governor Michell Lujan Grisham announced earlier this week that the state of New Mexico is temporarily re-implementing a statewide requirement that facemasks be worn in all public indoor spaces, with only limited exceptions, and regardless of vaccination status. In addition, the Governor announced the following:

  • The state will issue a requirement for all workers in certain medical close-contact congregate settings – including hospitals, nursing homes, juvenile justice facilities, rehabilitation facilities, state correctional facilities, and more – to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • The state issued a requirement that all workers at private, public and charter schools in New Mexico either be vaccinated against COVID-19 or otherwise submit to COVID-19 testing on a weekly basis in order to align with the state’s requirement for all state government personnel.

The re-implemented indoor mask requirement applies to all individuals aged 2 and older in all indoor public settings, except when eating or drinking.

The Gila National Forest Wilderness Ranger District has announced that the new Vault Toilets at Lake Roberts are temporarily closed at this time. According to a news release, the Gila National Forest Engineering Staff and Road Crew will be pouring concrete ramps for the new vault toilets so the toilets at the Lake Roberts dock will be closed on September 23rd through September 27th. There are other vault toilets available at the Lake Roberts Picnic Area, Vista Ruins Picnic area, Mesa Campground, and Upper End Campground.

Cynthia Bettison, Town of Silver City District 1 Councilor, has announced her resignation due to health issues, effective immediately. Bettison has served as District 1 Counsilor since 2009, and the Town Council Mayor Pro Tem since 2010. In addition to Ms. Bettison’s many achievements that have benefitted the community, she serves as director of the Western New Mexico University Museum. The individual appointed to the District 1 position will serve the balance of the term through December 31st, 2023.
