U.S Senator Tom Udall, announced the names of the 45 New Mexico students who have received his nomination to attend a United States service academy beginning in 2021. A congressional, vice-presidential, or service-connected nomination is required for admission to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Students receiving Udall’s nomination completed a competitive application process, which included interviews with the senator’s Military Academy Service Panels, comprised of active duty service members, veterans, and community leaders. Congratulations go out to Jasmine Munoz and Robert Montoya, both from Bayard, New Mexico. They will be entering the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 2021.

Today’s Thanksgiving marks the 400th anniversary of the colonial Pilgrims’ 1621 harvest meal. The first Thanksgiving meal in Plymouth, was most likely comprised of some local seafood (mussels, lobster, bass) plus the fruits of the first pilgrim harvest, including pumpkin, and deer meat brought by the Wampanoag tribe Native Americans. Thanksgiving has remained a time for us all to give thanks and appreciate all we have in life. This year’s celebration may be a little different because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but we are more thankful than ever for family, friends, and freedoms. Silver City Radio wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. May your blessings be many as we head closer to a new year.
