The lightning-caused Sacaton Fire in the Gila Wilderness has grown to an estimated 9,274 acres and remains 0% contained as of July 6. Firefighters continue working to protect the Willow Creek Subdivision, where crews have completed a direct fireline along the northern edge of the fire, strengthened by earlier fire-retardant drops. Crews are reinforcing those lines, installing water systems for structure protection, and preparing additional indirect firelines along Bearwallow Road in case defensive firing operations become necessary. With thunderstorms and a high chance of lightning expected, an initial attack team remains on standby to quickly respond to any new wildfire starts.
