In Gila National Forest news, at the time of this report today, the Black Fire has covered 246,648 acres with 28% containment.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Forest Road 150 is closed due to active fire behavior. There is a recent area closure in effect encompassing a large portion of the forest, for your safety and the safety of the firefighters, the public is asked to please respect the closures. PNM is offering a Refrigerator Recycling Program whereby customers can earn $75 when recycling their old working refrigerator or freezer. The recycling of old units can have a positive impact on the environment by providing the following benefits:

  • Each Fridge recycled keeps over 150 lbs. of material out of the waste stream.
  • Every ton of plastic recycled (approximately 80 fridges) saves 30 cubic yards of landfill space.
  • 95% of the material in fridges and freezers processed in a recycling facility is recycled or disposed of in a safe manner.

According to a news release, residents can schedule a free inside ot outside pickup and can choose the date and time online. A $75 check will be sent in the mail about 4-weeks after the pickup date. To learn more about the program, visit http://www.pnm.com/fridge

The Silver City Public Library located at 515 W. College Avenue welcomes all levels of fluency to practice Spanish in a friendly atmosphere.  The first meeting is this Saturday, June 4th at 10:00 A.M.
