Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced 8,140 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. There have been 212,996 tests performed statewide, 170 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations, and 3,013 cases designated as having recovered according to the Department of Health.  In addition, sadly there has been 375 COVID-19 related deaths recorded statewide. Positive COVID-19 cases in Grant County remain at 15 with 1,850 tests administered, Luna County increasing to 10 cases and 1,504 tests administered, Catron County remaining at 2 with 103 tests administered, and Hidalgo County with 1 confirmed case and 290 tests administered.

The Luna Clerk is reminding all persons conducting business in Luna County, outside the incorporated boundaries of the City of Deming or the Village of Columbus, that they must renew their business registration or apply for a new business registration on or before June 30th. According to a release, Luna County Ordinance No. 5 provides for a penalty of $25 per month and/or a 90-day jail sentence and/or $300 fine for each violation. In addition, persons engaged solely in farming and ranching or whose annual gross sales do not exceed $500 are exempt from the ordinance. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the public is invited to celebrate that Silver City and Grant County are “uniquely open” by strolling Down Bullard Street in downtown Silver City. Even though business can’t operate at full occupancy in adherence to the state COVID-19 public health orders, a section of Bullard Street will be closed to vehicle traffic to allow for increased outside occupancy for restaurants and retailers. The Town of Silver City, Grant County, and the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce along with MainStreet, are supporting all businesses in Grant County, and are encouraging the public to support local businesses. There will be music, street dining and regular dining, art, demonstrations, and so much more from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. this Friday through Sunday on Bullard Street in Downtown Silver City. Visitors are reminded to wear a face mask and maintain social distancing of 6-feet.
