The Johnson Fire located at Johnson Canyon, west of McKenna, 11 miles west of the Gila Cliff Dwellings, Wilderness Ranger District, has reached 50,384 acres at 11% containment at the time of this report. There has been moderate fire activity, with creeping, backing, and scattered torching. The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument remains closed and shall remain in effect until rescinded. Demolition of the east-bound bridge over Main Street in Lordsburg has extended the time that Main Street will be closed to traffic below the bridge into June 25th. The closures remain between the hours of 7:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. Both on and off ramps will be open in either direction to access the Interstate 10 and detour signage will be placed to direct the traffic to alternate routes. In addition, Animas Street will be unaffected and can be used in place of Main Street.

The Town of Silver City has completed three projects through funding from the New Mexico Department of Tourism’s Clean and Beautiful Program. The projects were completed by the Youth Mural program, the Gila Native Plant Society, and Constructavision LLC. The work included a tile mural on the restroom building at the Main Street Plaza (in cooperation with Silver Mainstreet), improvement to the Silva Creek Botanical Garden, and a creation of a parklet on the corner of Yankie and Texas Streets. In addition, Silver City MainStreet served as the program coordinator for the Town.

The Town of Silver City has announced that there will be a scheduled water outage in the Ridge Road area on Tuesday, June 15th, from 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.  due to the connection of a new 12-inch water main.
