A merger between La Casa, Inc. of Las Cruces and Dona Ana County and Healing House of Deming has been coordinated to provide increased comprehensive services including an emergency shelter to aid victims of domestic violence and abuse. Healing House will now be named La Casa Healing House in Deming that currently has a 17-bed shelter that provides 24/7 services. Luna County has managed Healing House and through this merger now will be turned over La Casa, Inc., a 501©3 nonprofit organization. In addition, Las Casa, Inc. has provided services to those in need since 1981 in Dona Ana County.

The Disabled American Veterans Grant County/Fort Bayard Chapter is currently seeking volunteers to serve as drivers for the VA transportation system. According to a news release, “Volunteering to drive a VA van ensures that those living remotely from a VA facility can make it to their appointments and never go without treatments they need. Some veterans may lack the ability or means to transport themselves to appointments.” In addition, the drivers will assist veterans to travel to the Albuquerque VA hospital, that also may include Las Cruces, Alamogordo, or a contract Physician in southwest New Mexico. City of Bayard residents are reminded that copies of the Annual Drinking Water Quality Report for the year 2021 are available at Bayard City Hall, located at 800 Central Avenue. Residents are directed to call 575-537-3327 to schedule a time to pick up their copy of the annual water report.
