The Cobre School District is presenting a Back to School Event featuring free backpacks., food, school supplies, live music, and fun games for the entire family. The event, titled “SummerFest” will also offer student immunizations and Health Department School booths. According to new school superintendent, Jeff Spaletta, “the purpose of the event is to ease the burden of purchasing school supplies, as well as getting the community engaged in the upcoming school year.” Members of the public are welcome to donate to Summerfest and/or participate by volunteering to help the day of the event. Cobre Schools “Summerfest” is scheduled for Saturday, July 30th from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Cobre High School campus.

The Silver City MainStreet/Arts & Cultural District has partnered with the Future Forge and other community groups and artists to offer the free arts and cultural activities to families in Grant County. According to a news release, Val Weston of the Silver City Art Association and Nancy Stephens of the Imagination Library will each be offering a free activity at the next Maker’s Market in the MainStreet Plaza, this Saturday, June 9th from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The Imagination Library of Grant County, an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, will be giving away books to kids of all ages and providing materials to make your own bracelet. In addition, families can sign up their children ages 0-4 to receive Imagination Library books every month in the mail. By the time children start kindergarten, they will have built a home library of up to 60 personally addressed, age appropriate books. Any child who lives in Grant County is eligible for the free program regardless of family income.

A special meeting of the Tyrone Water & Wastewater Association will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, July 6th, at 4:00 P.M., in the Tyrone Community Center. Although all members are urged to attend, this meeting is open to the public.
