In Luna County, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was joined by local officials and first responders yesterday announcing $2.1 million in state funding for a new emergency operations center. According to a news release, the current emergency operations center is housed in a 45-year-old former jail building that suffers from drainage and sewer issues and no emergency power source. The new “Deming Readiness Center” will be located within the Luna County Armory and will include the county’s Central Dispatch, Emergency Management, and equipment from the volunteer fire department. In addition, the facility will have a bunk area with showers, and large classrooms for tabletop exercises. The total amount of funding for this project is $3.6 million with $1.5 million coming from federal funding.

The Town of Silver City has announced that a scheduled water outage will be in effect on Wednesday, August 3rd from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. in the area of 18th Street through 21st Street. The outage is necessary in order to replace water main valves. Any questions or concerns can be addressed by calling the Silver City Utilities Department at 575-534-6365.

Bayard City Hall will be closed next Wednesday through Friday, August 3rd through 5th while their staff attends training in Albuquerque. Residents are notified that payments can be made at the night drop located on the north side of the building or online at city of https://www.cityofbayardnm.gov/

The final Santa Clara “Music in the Park” event for this season will take place this evening in Viola Stone Park featuring live music performed by the group “Encantadorez”. This is a free community event and all are welcome.

The Cobre School District is hosting a “Summerfest Back to School Event” tomorrow from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Cobre High School Campus. Children can pick up free backpacks, school supplies, receive immunizations and free t-shirts while the entire family can enjoy free food, live music, and games.
