The Town of Silver City has announced that a scheduled water outage will be in effect on Wednesday, August 3rd from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. in the area of 18th Street through 21st Street. The outage is necessary in order to replace water main valves. Specific areas affected include the following:

  • 18th Street from Juniper to Crescent Street
  • Crescent Street from 18th to Crestway Drive
  • Crestway Drive from 18th to 19th Street
  • Main Street from 18th to 21st Street
  • Pope Street from 19th Street to 2009 North Pope Street
  • 20th Street from Ursa Major to Juniper Street
  • 21st Street and Juniper to Main Street

The WNMU Board of Regents met this week and approved several funding increases and appropriations in addition to discussing their evaluation of university president, Dr. Joseph Shepard. According to a news release “The board approved for fiscal year 2023-24, funding increases to Mustang Athletics and to the WNMU Schools of Nursing and Education. Other requested appropriations are for instructional television, pharmacy and phlebotomy programs, Mimbres Press of WNMU, Student Success Center, Veterans Center, Rural Public Safety Training Institute and Police Academy, Center of Outdoor Recreation and Education Excellence, and Institute for Health and Human Performance. All of these together total close to $10 million. Dr. Joseph Shepard’s performance was rated as exceptional and he will be awarded a bonus.

American Legion Post 18 is hosting a Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, July 30th from 8:00 to 11:00 A.M. in the American Legion Hall located at 409 College Avenue in Silver City. The breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes with sausage, juice and coffee for $8.00.
