Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Lt. Governor Howie Morales along will the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish will be attending a groundbreaking ceremony at the Bear Canyon Reservoir in Mimbres on July 27th. The State of New Mexico is investing approximately $10 million to modernize the infrastructure of the Bear Canyon Dam. According to a news release, the Bear Canyon Dam was constructed from 1936-37 by the Works Progress Administration, WPA, under President Roosevelt’s New Deal initiative. In addition, the associated reservoir has helped provide a consistent source of water for downstream irrigation from its inception. Since 1947, the Department has managed the reservoir to provide fishing and public recreation opportunities for local residents and tourists.”

The Luna County Road Department has given a county solid waste services update announcing that trash disposal remains free and open to residents including the city’s transfer station located at 5470 Highway 549 Southeast. Earlier this month, not all the county trash stations were open for public use. The county thanked residents for their continued patience during that time.

Silver Consolidated Schools is hosting Back to School Pool Parties for students, staff, and their immediate families this month. These events are private and for Silver Schools families only. Lifeguards will be present and outside food is allowed. The private party for kindergarten through 6th grade students and their immediate families is scheduled for this Friday, July 22nd from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. The private party for 7th through 12 grade students and their immediate families is scheduled for Friday, July 29th from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. and a private pool party for school staff and their immediate families is scheduled on Saturday, July 30th from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
