PNM is offering On-site Assistance events in Deming and Silver City next week to help residents pay past due electric bills. To qualify for a series of three different assistance funds, households must follow specific income guidelines and have the following documents for review that include:

  • Proof of all household income
  • ID’s for all persons in the home
  • Past die PNM bill

At this event, residents can apply for the PNM COVID Relief Fund, the PNM Good Neighbor Fund, and Emergency Rental Assistance Fund for electric bill assistance. For additional assistance from the Good Neighbor Fund, also requires your 2021 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program approval. The PNM On-site Assistance event in Deming is scheduled for Thursday, July 22nd from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M. at CitiLife Church located at 1200 Pear Street SE in Deming. The Silver City PNM On-site Assistance event is scheduled for Saturday, July 24th from 8:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Kiwanis Club building located at 900 Silver Heights in Silver City.

New Mexico state officials have announced a support program that will provide supplemental payments for New Mexicans receiving unemployment benefits who return to work in coming weeks, with some workers receiving up to $1,000, to  accelerate the recovery of the state’s workforce. Unemployment claimants who secure a job over the next four weeks will have to remain employed through August 28, the end date of the program, to receive payments. If an unemployment claimant reports a new job, they will receive a onetime $1,000 supplement from the state Department of Workforce Solutions upon the conclusion of the nine-week program. The funding comes from federal stimulus. Information on the program can also be found on the Department of Workforce Solutions website.

Town of Silver City Mayor, Ken Ladner, is accepting applications to fill one (1) volunteer position on the Trails and Open Space Advisory Committee. This position is for a volunteer that is a resident of the Town of Silver City or owner of a business located in Silver City. Appointments shall be two-year terms, and appointees are eligible for reappointment. Applications will be accepted until filled by appointment by the Mayor. Applications are available at City Hall, 101 W. Broadway or on the Town’s website, www.townofsilvercity.org.
