The Silver Consolidated School Board interview committee has selected Louis Alvarez to replace Curtis Clough, as the district’s Associate Superintendent for Operations. Curtis Clough, was recently selected as the new Superintendent of Hagerman Schools in Chaves County, New Mexico. Louis Alvarez has worked for Silver Schools these past 12 years at all levels, most recently at both 6th Street Elementary and at La Plata Middle School as campus principal. Mr. Alvarez will remain on as campus Principal at La Plata Middle School until a new Principal has been selected for the campus and is available to begin his or her duties. Congratulations to Mr. Louis Alvarez.

The Bureau of Land Management has unveiled updates to its popular hunting and recreation map system. In partnership with the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, the BLM offers free digital maps of big game hunting units and recreational opportunities on public land. The free “CarryMap” application for iOS and Android devices is available at the Apple Store and the Google Play Store. The information is also available for download and use on Windows computers. Silver City Mayor, Ken Ladner, honored Firefighter and Silver City Emergency Manager, Jeff Fell, during this week’s Town Council meeting. Fell’s diligent work during the pandemic included the coordination of public information, and an important role in the acquisition and distribution of supplies and safety equipment to emergency works and the community at large. In addition, Jeff Fell served in the creation of a local COVID-19 task force. Thank you and congratulations to Jeff Fell.
