It is now time for your local news minute from Silver City Radio.

 Volunteers are needed for the wreath retirement at Fort Bayard National Cemetery this Saturday, January 22, at 8:30am.  If you would like to Volunteer, park outside the cemetery gates to allow room for trucks and trailers inside the ground. Wreaths Across American volunteers will be in orange vest to provide more directions.

Next Monday, the regular meeting of the Grant County Soil and Water Conservation District will meet a 4pm and the Grant County Extension Service Building conference room. The public is always invited to attend in person (on a limited basis) or via zoom.  For more information call 575-388-1569.

Next Thursday, the WNMU Board of Regents will be meeting.  The public is encouraged to join via Zoom.  The agenda and zoom information can be found at wnmu.edu and go to the calendar to locate the meeting information. Some items to be discussed under new business include Disruptive Behavior policy, the 2020-21 Audit Report and Financial Certification.

In other WNMU news, WNMU Rehabilitation Services is now nationally accredited as an inclusive Rehabilitation Sciences Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

In regional news, Senator Crystal Diamond, was appointed to the Republican State Leadership Executive Committee.  Senator Crystal Diamond represents District 35, which is Sierra, Luna, Dona Ana, and Hidalgo Counties.

In Lordsburg news, Riley Allen has been re-elected as Volunteer Firefighter Chief.  Chief Allen, along with 22 other firefighters, have agreed to return and to serve the City of Lordsburg after more than a year-ago, the group had a dispute with former Mayor Robert Barrera that had them walk out.

In Silver City news, Silver City Mainstreet was awarded $125,000 in New Mexico Mainstreet Capital Outlay Funds for the Silco Theater.  The funding is to be used towards infrastructure improvements.
