New Mexico Mainstreet and the New Mexico Economic Development Department has announced that $2.5 million has been awarded for revitalization projects in 13 New Mexico Mainstreet districts including Silver City. According to a news release, “the NMMS Public Infrastructure Capital Outlay Program provides funding for upgrades within a targeted public investment area. The program has awarded $125,000 to the Silco Theater in Downtown Silver City for various needed building improvements that will create a better community space for movies, events, and performances.

The Ability Center is distributing winter wear and a limited supply of $50 food card to Food Basket for disabled and elderly residents this Thursday, January 20th at 11:00 A.M. in the Kiwanis Building located at 900 Silver Heights Boulevard in Silver City. Disabled and elderly residents will be able to receive winter jackets, scarves, hats, and gloves, in addition to child winter coats for their relatives. The Luna County Board of County Commissioners has recently approved several county resolutions that affect residents. The newly passed resolutions deal with the following issues:

  • Implementation of certain fees pertaining to copying, recording, business registrations, permit fees, and other service fees.
  • County Commission meetings and reasonable notice according to the Open Meeting Act.
  • Notice of Right to Inspect Public Records
  • Adoption of required Community Development Block Grant Certifications and Commitments
