According to the New Mexico Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard, as of February 11th, Grant County has partially or fully vaccinated a total of 18.5% of its population and ranks 17th highest out of state’s 33 counties. In addition, Luna County has fully or partially vaccinated a total 14.9% of its population, Hidalgo County for a total of 17.5% and Catron County for a total of 22.7%. At this time 612,148 New Mexico residents have registered to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Statewide, a total of 272,473 primary doses have been administered along with 111,369 booster doses.

The “Spirit of Hidalgo”, listed by the New Mexico Aging & Long-Term Services Department as an emergency food pantry providing commodity food distribution, has received emergency funds for housing and utilities for families in Hidalgo County struggling through the pandemic. Applications will be accepted during the first two weeks of each month to be screened and processed for payment by the end of the month. In addition, the payments will be processed for one month of past due rent, mortgage, and/or utilities. The current cutoff date is February 15th with applications screened for payment by February 28th. The next open application period will be March 1st through 15th.  Applicants can go to spiritofhidalgo.com/help.

Hidalgo Medical Services has opened a new in the Mining District located in Santa Clara next to the Senior Center. The clinic will be seeing patients of all ages Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. They are offering well-check visits, annual physicals, flu shots, and COVID-19 testing. The clinic officially opens this Monday, February 15th and they can be reached at 575-537-5068.
