The state of New Mexico has rescinded its mandatory self-quarantine requirements for visitors into the state. Beginning yesterday, the state will no longer require self-quarantine for visitors or New Mexican residents arriving into the state from high risk states. Visitors from anywhere outside the state are now strongly advised to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days and take a COVID-19 test upon return or arrival to New Mexico. In addition, the Department of Health released an announcement that 15 New Mexico counties have reached the Yellow level as described by the state’s color-coding risk system. Grant County still remains in the yellow level with a positivity rate of 3.81% and Catron County remains in the least restrictive Green level, with a 1.69% positivity rate. Both Hidalgo and Luna County’s remain in the Red Level with positivity rates in Hildalgo County at 11.6% and Luna County with 7.47%.

New Mexico State Police Officer, Darian Jarrott, who was killed in the line of duty on I-10 near Deming last Thursday, will be laid to rest tomorrow in his hometown of Lordsburg. Officer Jarrott was born on April 10th, 1992 and graduated as salutatorian of his class at Lordsburg High School in 2010. In addition, he furthered his education at WNMU receiving a B.A. in Administration of Justice. Officer Jarrott became a New Mexico State Police Officer in 2015. Internment will be at Shakespeare Cemetery with honors presented by the New Mexico State Police Honor Guard. The services will be live streamed with a link to be provided by the New Mexico State Police.

The offices of the Gila National Forest will be closed on Monday, February 15th in commemoration of Presidents Day. In addition, the Catwalk Recreation Area in Glenwood will waive the day-use fee at the entry area as part of the 2021 Free-Free Days. For more information, visit the Gila National Forest Facebook.
