The New Mexico Department of Health issued a COVID-19 update for Wednesday December 22nd consisting of 733 new cases statewide. The 7-day average percent test positivity is not available today due to technical issues around calculating the value. Locally, new COVID cases were reported as follows: Grant County with 47 new cases; Luna County with 8new cases; Hidalgo County with 5 new cases; and Catron County with no new reported cases.

Last week, the Silver City Police Department along with Streets, Parks, Trails, and Facility Maintenance Departments collaborated in clearing out illegal dump sites in the town. The cleanup sites were located under several bridges located within the Downtown Silver City historical district. It was reported that just under a ton of debris was removed for those locations.

The Grant County Administrative Offices will be closed Friday, December 24 and Monday, December 27th in observance of the Christmas Holiday. The Offices will also be closed on Friday, December 31st and Monday, January 3rd, in observance of the New Year Holiday. The Grant County Sheriff’s delivered ten Christmas baskets to community members this week according to a news release. The baskets were filled with food, toys, and household items. In addition, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank their entire staff along with Sgt. Ray Tavison, Taylor McWhorter for donating toys, the Silver City Food Basket, Toys for Tots, and the staff of WNMU’s Childhood Program. All helped in making the event possible.
