Starting tomorrow, September 1st, Town of Silver City Utility Department will start conducting shut offs for delinquent accounts. Customers have been urged to contact the utility billing department immediately to set up arrangements prior to the announced shut off date. The contact information is 575-538-3731, options 1 and 1. In addition, the Town has been working with the state of New Mexico to help renters with their past due utility bills. Renters in need of assistance may contact the billing department at city hall or visit https://www.townofsilvercity.org/ to complete an application. According to the Town of Silver City website, this assistance is only available for Town of Silver City residents who are renting. Assistance for homeowners is pending at the state level.

In additional utility service news, the City of Bayard will issue water disconnects on Wednesday, September 7th. As a reminder, to make a water payment, customers have access to a drop box on the west side of the Bayard City Hall building. Payments can also be made online at https://www.cityofbayardnm.gov/.

Western New Mexico University President, Dr. Joseph Shepard, will serve as the guest speaker tomorrow at the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon. Shepard was appointed by the WNMU Board of Regents as the 15th president of the university, assuming office on July 5th, 2011. He currently leads the Silver City campus in addition to learning centers in Deming, Gallup, Lordsburg, and Truth of Consequences. According to a news release, during the luncheon the Chamber will also be awarding plaques to the Fourth of July parade entry winners and certificates to sponsors and volunteers that made the community event possible. Attendance to the luncheon is $15.00 and an R.S.V.P is required.
