The Grant County Commission has approved a contract for the employment of a new County Manager. Tim Zamora, a Grant County native, and a U.S Army veteran with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona. In addition, Mr. Zamora has a master’s degree in military studies and more that 30 years of management experience within the military and with civilians. He was most recently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Congratulations to Tim Zamora.

The Republican Party of Grant County has recognized two local law enforcement personnel for outstanding service to the community. Deputy Brandon Reese, a Grant County native was honored after serving 7 years in law enforcement and almost two years Grant County Sheriff’s Department. In a news release it was shared that “Brandon has proven to be an invaluable asset and has responded to calls with the same skill as a veteran deputy. He has shown compassion and care when dealing with citizens and always maintains a high level of professionalism.” Brandon was nominated by Sheriff Frank Gomez. The officer nominated from the Silver City Police Department was Detective L. Click. She has served with distinction as a parole officer since 2008. In 2018, she was promoted to Detective and has worked with general investigations and others including CYFD and assisting the New Mexico Attorney Generals office with Internet Crimes against Children and Human Trafficking. Both honorees were presented a certificate, challenge coin and an NM Blue Line pin by Peggy Tavizon.

“Kids Ride Grant County” is hosting group rides that tours the schools, practice safe routes to school and teach hand signals and rules of the road. Meet at Gila Hike and Bike located at 103 East College Avenue in Silver City this Saturday, August 14th from 10:00 A.M. to 12 Noon. You can even score some school supplies for the new year!
