Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

After three committees spent hours on Saturday questioning candidates for the position of Superintendent, the Silver Consolidated School Board offered the job to Audie Brown, who accepted.  Brown, when interviewed about his interest in the position the day before, said “I have the experience of turning around three schools in the Albuquerque Public Schools system and for turning around one district.  I would like to bring my experience to Silver City,” Brown stated.

The Gila National Forest has released for public review and feedback a draft need-for-change document as part of the Forest Plan Revision process.  The document is available at http://go.usa.gov/xkAgF.

In sports action, the Western New Mexico University football team claimed a 2014 victory over Lone Star Conference opponent Angelo State University.  The Mustangs stand at 3-6 for the season and 3-4 in conference action.  The final game of the season will be at Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday night beginning at 7 pm, CST.

The Western New Mexico University volleyball team was close in every set Friday night, but weren’t able to get over the hump as they were upset by Cameron University 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-27, 24-26) in Lone Star Conference action.  On Saturday, the Lady ‘Stangs regrouped to win a tough 3-2 (26-24, 17-25, 25-13, 20-25, 15-8) victory over Midwestern State.
