Here’s a look at some local news:

The Wilderness Ranger District, Gila National Forest had a theft at the fee collection box at the Mesa Campground. The staff discovered the theft yesterday. The box was last emptied on October 11th. People that have visited the Mesa Campground since October 11th and used a check as payment for the fees, are being urged to contact their bank. District Ranger Rachelle Huddleston-Lorton, stated that “in order to protect our visitors’ financial well-being we recommend a stop payment for their checks.” Checks deposited by the offices of the Gila National Forest are sent to the US Treasury for processing and would read that way.  The incident is under investigation. Until the fee box is replaced, it is requested that visitors deposit their fees at Upper End Campground.

Silver City MainStreet and The Village of Santa Clara are working together to promote both communities Lighted Christmas Parades. The Silver City parade will be Saturday, November 30th at 7 pm and Santa Clara’s will be Saturday, December 7th at 6:30 pm. According to a release from Silver City Mainstreet, “The parades are for children and families and are about community, states Sheila Hudman, Town Clerk for Santa Clara. The children would love to see both parades and we are encouraging families, businesses and organizations to participate in both parades.” There will be some space available to store floats at the Santa Clara Armory, so floats used for the Silver City Parade can be stored for a week to be used in the Santa Clara parade. Board President of Silver City MainStreet, Patrick Hoskins, stated that year, the Silver City parade does not have a theme, so participants can use the decorations and lights you have to make a float. “We want to make it easier for everyone to participate in float making. Just make sure that it has child appeal and is well lit.” To participate in the parades contact Sheila Hudman at santaclara7@villageofsantaclara.com, or download a parade application for the Silver City parade at silvercitymainstreet.com.
