Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

New Mexico State Police investigated a motorcycle crash on Pine Street and Highway 549 in Deming on Saturday night.  The motorcycle was driven by 51 year-old Luna County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Richard Cowles.  The initial investigation indicated the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Pine Street and failed to navigate a curve in the roadway.  The driver struck a curb in the median and crashed.  Cowles was ejected and sustained fatal injuries from the crash.

Gila Regional Medical Center last Thursday celebrated the recent awarding of a 4-Star Quality rating from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid with hamburgers and hot dogs in the courtyard.  GRMC Chief Executive Officer Brian Cunningham also spoke to attendees about the 4-Mill Levy that will appear on the ballot for the November election.

In sports action, the WNMU volleyball team, after winning 2 of 3 sets, lost sets 4 and 5 in a close game against Texas A&M Kingsville on Friday night.  The Lady ‘Stangs face off against Cameron on Friday and Midwestern State on Saturday.

The Western New Mexico University Football team lost 52-14 against Fort Lewis College on Saturday as they played against their former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents.  The Mustangs return to Lone Star Conference action on Saturday against Angelo State.
