Here’s a look at today’s news:

The New Mexico Department of Health recommends that everyone six months of age and older should get a flu vaccine each flu season. People in high risk groups are susceptible of having serious flu-related complications or they live with or care for people at high risk for developing flu-related complications. Some local flu shot clinics are scheduled as follows: The HMS Lordsburg Clinic located off of DeMoss Street, is offering drive-through flu vaccination clinic tomorrow from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.;  the Deming Senior Citizens’ Center, located at 800 South Granite Street is providing flu shots for seniors from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 23rd, at the center; and the New Mexico Department of Health’s Grant County Public Health Office, located 2610 N. Silver Street, in Silver City will host a flu shot clinic on Wednesday, October 24th, from 8:00 A.M. to 12 noon and 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. For more information, visit silvercityradio.com.

Silver City Mainstreet is hosting the New Mexico Mainstreet Fall Leadership Network Meeting next Wednesday through Friday at the Murray Hotel in Downtown Silver City. According to a release, “The MainStreet program is a national program fostering economic development in local communities and operates under the NM MainStreet program and the state Economic Development Department.  Each quarter meetings are held around the state that provide continuing education and networking within the MainStreet community.” The focus of the meeting is titled, “Enhance the Entrepreneurial and Creative Economy”, and will feature a panel discussion from several downtown business owners and the director of the Silver City Small Business Development Center.

Dr. Trevor Williams of Deming Dental Services, is offering a “Free Dental Day” tomorrow from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the office located at 400 South Gold Street. Dr. Williams started the “Free Dental Day” in 2010 in order to give back to the community. Patients will be offered a dental cleaning, one extraction or filling per person on a first come first served basis.

The 2018 Gila Monster Grand Fondo cycling event starting in Silver City, featuring three iconic courses for amateur, recreational, and avid cyclists.
