Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Elections are over and the votes are being tallied.  According to the Secretary of State website, the unofficial Election Results for the General Election for November 4th 2014 as of 3 pm are: Tom Udall for US Senator; Michele Lujan Grisham for State Representative District 1, Steve Pearce District 2, and Ben Ray Lujan District 3; Governor and Lt. Governor remain Susana Martinez and John Sanchez, Secretary of State Dianna Duran, State Auditor Timothy Keller, Treasurer Tim Eichenberg, Hector Balderas for Attorney General, Aubrey Dunn for Commissioner of Public Lands, and J. Miles Hanisee for Judge of the Court of Appeals.  Locally, State Representative for District 32 Dona Irwin, District 38 Dianne Hamilton, and District 39, John Zimmerman.  Public Regulations Commissioner for District 5 Sandy Jones, Public Education Commissioner District 6 Gilbert Peralta.

In Grant County Races: County Commissioner District 1 Gabriel Ramos, District 2 Brett Kasten, Grant County Assessor Raul Turrieta, Grant County Sheriff Raul Villanueva, and Probate Judge Velia Miranda.  In Luna County: County Commissioner District 1 Joe “Oleo” Milo, District 2 Linda Smrkovsky, County Assesor Delilah Orquiz Rojo, Luna County Sheriff Jonathan Mooradian, and Probate Judge Delia Perez.  And, in Hidalgo County Races: County Commissioner Marianne Stewart, District 2 Darr Reynolds Shannon, County Assessor Jody Lynn Hatch, Hidalgo County Sheriff Warren D Walter, and Probate Judge Carmen Acosta.

As part of a continuing program to reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health and enhance wildlife habitat, fire managers are preparing for prescribed broadcast burning in the area of Meadow Creek/Signal Peak Area late November into December 2014. This 676 acre burn will complete the final burn unit within the Signal Peak Landscape project area.   With the onset of winter, the district is also preparing to burn piles at various district locations. These areas will be signed and posted for public awareness. Pile burning will continue throughout the winter as conditions allow.

The burns will be conducted at the following locations:

  • Redstone broadcast burn is approximately 10 miles North of Silver City NM, off  Meadow Creek FR 149 and Signal Peak FR 154
  • Meadow Creek piles; approximately 10 miles southwest of Silver City NM, off Meadow Creek FR 149
  • Ft. Bayard  Administrative Site piles; 7 miles northeast of Silver City at the Fort Bayard Administrative Site
